Why are we doing this?

Emerging economies continue to be overlooked.

In the latest United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Report (2026 edition), it is stated that “…just 36 per cent of the 139 assessable SDG targets are on track or making moderate progress, and 15 per cent have gone into reverse.”

Goal #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) has a major focus on public spaces, especially those with sporting use. But in densified communities, “…streets account for 15 per cent of urban land and open public spaces for just 2 per cent.”

And yet, the sports economy keeps growing. But with one caveat.

The World Economic Forum (Sports for People and Planet) projects that the $2.3 trillion global sports economy is expected to grow by four drivers, with Emerging Economies playing a significant role as one of the drivers. They state Africa, Asia, and Latin America as places that are “increasingly creating jobs, promoting health and stimulating infrastructure development.”

And that is where we want to help - at the grassroots level.

By getting out into the communities and reviving sporting infrastructure for everyday use, SportSpace is determined to contribute to the United Nations SDG goals.
